IMUS CITY—The Imus AJAA Sluggers beat Batang GenTri, 9-1, in the championship game to rule the 1st AJAA Invitational Softball Tournament on Sunday at the Imus City Track Oval in Barangay Malgasang 1-G here.
The Imus Sluggers scored the win in only one hour and two minutes to be crowned king of Cavite softball in the tournament organized by Mayor Alex ‘Double A’ Advincula.
The team of Finals’ Most Valuable Player Ferdinand Liguayan Jr. of Barangay Malagasang 1-G took home the P180,000 cash prize for the champion, while P150,000 and a trophy went to the 1st runner-up Team GenTri, courtesy of Gov. Jonvic Remulla and GenTri Mayor Luis Jon-Jon Ferrer IV.
Mayor Denver Chua’s Team Unlad Cavite City was named 2nd runner-up and took home the P100,000 cash prize. A pot of P75,000 went to the 3rd runner-up.
Participating teams Unlad Noveleta, Trece The Martyrs, Bacoor Strikers, Batang Alfonso and Tanza Mariners all got P50,000.
Mayor Advincula thanked the participants in the tournament, the goal of which was to boost the game of softball — a sport popular in Cavite during in the 1970s to the 1980s, represented by the powerhouse Blu Boys’ team.
