LTO suspends license of Makati road rage shooter, strict penalties imposed

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) through its chief Vigor Mendoza II ordered a 90-day suspension of the driver’s license of Gerrard Raymund Yu, the primary suspect in the recent fatal shooting of a 65-year-old family driver in Makati City.

Yu, the driver of a black Mercedes Benz, is also facing severe administrative charges, including reckless driving and being deemed an improper person to operate a motor vehicle. If found guilty, Yu could face the maximum penalty of having his driver’s license permanently canceled.

In addition to the administrative actions, Yu has been criminally charged for the killing of Aniceto Mateo in a fit of road rage last Tuesday, May, 28 inside the EDSA Ayala tunnel’s southbound lane. The incident has shocked the community and drawn widespread condemnation.

“We already issued a show-cause order against him (Yu), and since he is already under police custody for a case that is non-bailable, he was directed to submit a notarized affidavit on why he should not be penalized,” Mendoza said.

Yu was arrested by the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday, May 29.
