The Filipino-Chinese community in Baguio City, in collaboration with the city government and the Department of Public Works and Highways, unveiled the Baguio Chinoy Mural along Kisad Road on May 22, 2024
The mural, conceptualized by a team led by Filipino-Chinese visual artist Chino Chow, depicts cultural representations of both the Cordillera people and the Chinese community. It is 200 feet long and 14 feet high, making it the biggest in the city.
“The mural aims to highlight the intertwined history and contributions of both the Cordillerans and Chinese in shaping the development of Baguio.” Chow said.
Peter Ng, president of the Filipino-Chinese community executive committee, said the mural aims to promote better understanding between the Filipino and Chinese communities, which have co-existed since the early 1900s.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in a message conveyed by executive assistant Samantha Hamada, expressed his gratitude to the Filipino-Chinese community for their continued cooperation with the city government in enriching Baguio.
Councilors Leandro Yangot and Jose Molintas, Creative Baguio City Council chair Venus Tan, Baguio Patriotic High School president and businessman Fernando Tiong were also present during the event.
