The Philippines was coming off fresh from an impressive 12-4 victory over South Korea on Wednesday with Kim Franz Varga earning the title of Player of the Game for his pivotal assists that played a crucial role in the victory.
The Philippines set the tone early, finishing the first period with a commanding 4-1 lead against the South Koreans.
John Calleryd Dela Pena scored the opening goal, assisted by Sellgren Ponce, followed swiftly by a second goal from Mattiece Cortez. Simon Sicat Larano added a third goal at the 4-210-minute mark, and Melvin Mendoza further extended the lead with a penalty shot.
South Korea’s Hoon Dong Cho managed to score their first goal just before the 18-minute mark, capitalizing on the Philippines being shorthanded due to fouls.
Team Philippines scored its first victory in the tournament at the expense of New Zealand, 4-2, on Monday.
