The Filipinas Under-17 team had its winning chances, but the narrowly missed them.

Coach Sinisa Cohadzic said this as Team Philippines blew their bid to earn a ticket in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup semifinals.

“It’s a proud moment to play against South Korea. The girls stepped up in their game. We could have won,” said Cohadzic on Sunday after his wards played to a 1-1 draw with the Koreans at the Bali United Training Center.

Ariana Markey gave the Filipinas a chance by putting the ball at the back of the net in the 38th minute off a corner kick.

But South Korea struck back off Beom Ye-Ju’s 74th-minute attack.

The draw was a heartbreaker for the Philippines, who were eliminated at the group stage round.

The Filipinas return home with a win, a loss and a draw in Group A.

Team Philippines earlier won over host nation Indonesia, 6-1, last May 6, and then lost, 0-6, to North Korea last May 9.

North Korea topped Group A, earning nine points on the back of three straight wins, and after pulling off a 9-0 swamping of Indonesia at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium.

Choe Il Son scored the most goals for North Korea, with attacks coming in on the first, 10th, 38th, 40th and 47th minutes.
