Jr Altas Girls zero in on NCAA volleyball tiara

The Perpetual Junior Altas won the Game 1 of their championship showdown with the Arellano University Lady Braves in five thrilling sets on Sunday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 Junior’s Volleyball Fiesta Championship at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

The Las Pin̈as team of coach Jason Sapin and coach Sandy Rieta ended the match that lasted two hours and 19 minutes with a score of 25-22, 17-25, 26-24, 21-25, 15-13.

The Junior Altas Girls just need one more win in their Best-of-Three Finals to bring home the title to Las Pin̈as.

Jemalyn Menor recorded a game high 23 points and Sherrie Acosta contributed 20, libero Janine Espiritu had a double-double of 22 digs and 23 excellent receptions.

Setter Jam Monte recorded 20 sets for the Tony Tamayo-owned education institution in south metro.

Catherine Chu posted a triple-double for Arellano with 34 points, 21 digs and 10 receptions, while Samantha Maranan had 31 points, 21 digs and 18 receptions for Arellano U.

“Hopefully, this will continue so that we can win the championship this season,” said coach Sapin.

Game 2 of the finals will be played on May 15, Wednesday at 7:30 am. If necessary, Game 3 is slated on May 19 at the same venue.
