The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on Thursday backed the P500 monthly grocery discount for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
“This initiative reflects the Commission’s collective efforts to improve the quality of life for our elderly and persons with disabilities. This also demonstrates our shared commitment to inclusivity and welfare for all,” Commissioner Beda Angeles Epres said.
He is the focal commissioner for older persons.
A monthly increase to P500 from P260 discount on groceries and premium items are being enjoyed by the elderly and the PWDs.
CHR cited Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights stating that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of themselves and their families, including food, clothing, housing, medical care and necessary social services.
