With the trend of Philippine remakes of popular K-Dramas seeing an upturn these past few years, it comes as no surprise that many fans have been posting their own fancasts for their favorite pairings in certain shows.
One such K-Drama that has been gaining buzz among Filipino fans is the recently-concluded Queen of Tears headline by the charming duo of Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won.
Throughout its 16-episode run, Queen of Tears has been a trending topic on X every week as viewers found themselves enamored by the chemistry between the characters of Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) and Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won).
The series’ finale recently became the highest-rated tvN series, beating the record previously held by Crash Landing on You, which was also written by Queen of Tears writer Park Ji-eun.
With the series’ success, many Filipino fans couldn’t help but gush about who would perfectly capture the pair’s undeniable charismatic energy if it gets its own Philippine remake. Some fans already have a pairing in mind to portray the power couple — Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards.
First paired in the hit film Hello, Love, Goodbye directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, Bernardo and Richards showcased their acting chops through the unexpected pairing, with many applauding the two for their palpable chemistry.
With the pair receiving traction online due to their close friendship reviving calls for a new KathDen project, some fans were quick to notice how they would be perfect for the role of the charming lawyer Baek Hyun-woo and the cold heiress Hong Hae-in.
While fans continue to hope for such a project to come to life, Garcia fueled the rumors for a Hello, Love, Goodbye sequel as she shared videos of herself with Star Cinema Creative Head Carmi Raymundo at the Hong Kong International Airport last month. Hong Kong notably served as the setting of the blockbuster film.
“Nostalgic… hihi,” the director teased in the post’s caption.
In separate interviews, both Bernardo and Richards have previously expressed their interest in reprising their roles of Joy and Ethan should a sequel be made. However, no announcements have been made as of writing. For now, KathDen fans may just have to wait a little more to see the pair’s onscreen reunion.
