Ex Palace spox: Trillanes’ claims of Marcos ouster ‘absolute nonsense’

Former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Tuesday called former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s recent claim on the alleged move to oust President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. “absolute nonsense.”

“The claim not only is false, but it’s absolute nonsense. The renegade only wants publicity for himself because he has become totally politically irrelevant,” Panelo said in a statement.

“His past misdeeds as a military man and public official speak themselves,” he added.

Earlier the same day, Trillanes claimed that a handful of senior police officials and retired military personnel were recruiting active members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for an ouster plot against President Marcos.

“Several active senior PNP officials have been identified recruiting since last year, but they haven’t recruited anyone yet,” Trillanes said.

Panelo previously served as chief legal counsel of former President Rodrigo Duterte, only resigning to run for senator in the 2022 elections.
