Lady Altas stun Red Spikers for 3rd win, keep hopes alive

THE Perpetual Lady Altas regained their winning form by defeating the San Beda Lady Red Spikers on Tuesday in the continuation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament at the Fil Oil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

The Lady Altas, champions of the tournament in 2014, recorded a hard-fought, five-set, third win this season in five games with a score of 20-25, 25-11, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6.

Shaila Omipon topscored with 26 points, 21 in attacks and four service aces, while reigning MVP Mary Rhose Dapol contributed 17 points, 15 in attacks plus two aces.

Libero Marian Andal had 13 excellent receptions, while setter Jhasmine Sapin produced 12 excellent sets

The win boosted the Las Piñas City-based lady Altas’ bid to advance in the second round of the tournament alive.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Altas spikers of coach Sinfronio Acaylar remained flawless in five games, beating the Red Spikers in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22.

Reigning MVP Louie Ramirez topscored with 17 points and 18 excellent receptions, while Jefferson Marapoc contributed 13 pts.

Libero John Philip Pepito had 8 digs and setter JC Enarcisco made 22 excellent sets.

In juniors’ volleyball, the Junior Altas Girls completed the Final Four together with Arellano Braves (5-0), Lyceum (3-2) and Emilio Aguinaldo College Brigadiers (3-2).

The seven-peat seeking Juniors Altas Boys’ team is still unscathed with four wins together with Lyceum of Philippines University GenTri.
