Sara’s Hugpong party discharges several local stalwarts in Mindanao

THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) Party has expelled most of its leaders in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro provinces over “differences in principles and policies.”

In a statement, the HNP thanked Davao Del Norte Vice Governor De Carlo Uy, Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy, along with Davao De Oro Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, and Rep. Maricar Zamora for their contributions to the party.

“We regret to announce that the membership of the following incumbent public officials who ran under the HNP Party during the 2022 elections has been officially terminated, effective April 15, 2024. This decision comes in light of recent events and actions that have been found to conflict with the core principles and policies of our party,” the statement read.

The HNP was formed in 2018 by then Davao City mayor now Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

The party said it did not take the decision to expel the members in question lightly.

“We understand that such changes can be challenging, and we wish to assure you that this decision was reached only after a careful review of our party’s commitment to maintaining faithful public service. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” it added.

The HNP also hinted that more members could be terminated from the party in the very near future.

“We expect the courtesy resignation of other members of the HNP as we continue our preparations for the upcoming elections,” it said.
