Acorda retires, Palace appoints Peralta as PNP OIC

Police Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta has been designated as the Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge as PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda ended his term this weekend.

A memorandum from the Office of the President, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, issued the appointment of Peralta.

Peralta, who serves as the PNP’s deputy chief for administration, will remain as the OIC “until a replacement is appointed or until otherwise directed by this Office,” according to the memorandum.

Acorda was supposed to step down from his post in December after turning 56, the compulsory age of retirement for PNP personnel.

However, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his term until March 31, reports said.

Peralta, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991, has served as chief of the directorial staff and previously led Police Regional Office 1 in the Ilocos Region and the Southern Police District of Metro Manila.
