Okada joining Earth Hour celebration

Gaming and entertainment firm Okada Manila will participate in the Earth Hour celebration, a 60- minute symbolic event highlighting the importance of taking action against climate  change and promoting sustainable living practices.

Okada Manila will power down its exterior lighting and the iconic Fountain to observe Earth Hour on March 23 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Earth Hour is an annual symbolic lights-out event that started in Sydney in 2007  to bond together on the planet’s biggest environmental challenges. It has become the most significant grassroots movement to reach more people worldwide to work together and focus on climate and climate biodiversity actions.

The Philippines registered the highest energy savings of 195.34 megawatts (MW) from the one-hour energy switch-off in 2019, and the Department of Energy hopes to surpass that this year.

Earth Hour’s 2024 theme is “Switch Off Plastic Pollution, Give an Hour for  Earth” to remind of individual actions, corporate responsibility and government regulations in promoting sustainable habits by adopting eco-friendly practices and packaging for a healthier ecosystem.

Okada Manila will also dim its lights in its Coral and Pearl lobbies, wellness centers (The Retreat Spa and The Sole Retreat), and other areas within the integrated resort.

“By turning off our facilities and amenities for just an hour, we conserve energy and save a significant amount of electricity in our operations. These small, yet impactful, actions demonstrate our commitment to sparking positive environmental change,” said Okada Manila president and chief operating officer Byron Yip.

Restaurant and hotel guests can savor complimentary beverages in Okada Manila’s dining outlets and on the gaming floors to commemorate Earth Hour.

La Piazza, known for its exquisite Italian cuisine, will offer a special three-course, sustainable dinner by candlelight.

Medley Buffet will feature a vegan station and Earth Hour-themed pastries while the PLAY Kids’ Club is set to entertain with an indoor bonfire and storytelling from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

“We each have a role in fostering change and must act together. As a Forbes 5-Star-rated property and a premier integrated resort in the Philippines, Okada Manila stands united with the global community in advocating for the preservation of Earth. We aim to establish exemplary standards for society, not only for today’s betterment but also for the benefit of future  generations,” said Yip.
