20-hour power outage disrupts normal life in Legazpi City

The central business district and neighboring barangays of Legazpi City experienced more than 20 hours of brownout on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Businessmen and residents complained about the situation because they were unprepared of the long hours of unscheduled brownout.

Some residents ranted power was off since 11 p.m. Monday night, Feb. 26; other areas had been dealing with brownout since 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Water supply was also low to almost none at all.

Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) spokesman Jonathan Sadueste Ng explained the power interruption was due to emergency repair, troubleshooting and testing of the 69KV and the 13.2KV Substation Switch Gear in Bitano Feeders 1 and 2.

These are the major and main feeders, which supply electricity ro the urban areas of Legazpi City.

ALECO said power supply was restored in affected areas by 9:42 p.m. Tuesday.
