Angkas supports moves to legalize motor taxis

Angkas, the pioneering motorcycle ride-hailing service in the country, expressed strong support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiatives to legalize motorcycle taxis and improve regulations for transport network vehicle services (TNVS).

“I echo the call of the President for legalizing motorcycle taxis and providing better regulations for the ride-hailing economy,” Angkas chief executive George Royeca said.

Royeca’s statement came after President Marcos’ recent pronouncements on collaboration with Grab Philippines to formalize motorcycle taxi operations and refine TNVS regulations.

Royeca said this move aligns with his long-standing advocacy, which he has pursued for eight years.

Royeca underscored the potential for broader advocacy with industry support, acknowledging the significance of Grab’s involvement.

“Companies like Grab can really help amplify that call. I’ve been doing it for years, and I’m glad that somebody else is coming in to help bring data. The more people are talking about it, the more companies are pushing that advocacy, the better it is for everyone,” Royeca said.

He said that since its founding in 2015, Angkas has been a staunch advocate for the Motorcycle Taxi Law, aiming to establish a legitimate transportation option and generate employment opportunities.

Royeca’s expertise has been instrumental in shaping the MC taxi bill, as lawmakers and regulators seek his expertise to ensure its effectiveness and feasibility. He also advocates for the enhancement of the PUV Modernization Program.

He cited the significance of integrating technology, training and welfare in the transportation sector.

“By incorporating comprehensive financing mechanisms, subsidies, and training programs, we can equip our drivers with the tools they need to thrive in a modern economy,” Royeca said.

“By reducing waiting times, ensuring reliable and safe travel and integrating technology for ease of use, we not only improve the daily commute, but also enhance the overall quality of life for millions of Filipinos”, he said.
