Officers from the Southern Police District (SPD) Drug Enforcement Unit-Intelligence Divisions and Pasay City Police Station arrested a big-time drug dealer Wednesday and seized more than one million pesos worth of the illegal drug known as “shabu.”
Metro Manila police director Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez commended his men for conducting a successful buy-bust operation at the corner of Merong and Acosta Streets in Barangay 77.
The suspect was identified as John James Tan, who was arrested following a series of surveillance and monitoring, Nartatez said.
Tan was described as a high-value individual in the government’s campaign against drugs. Police recovered from him at least 175 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride valued at P1.19 million.
He is now detained at the Pasay City Custodial Facility while documents are prepared for inquest proceedings.
Complaint for violation of Section 5 (Selling) Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) will be filed against him.

Nartatez emphasized the continuous dedication of his men in the fight against illegal drugs in the National Capital Region. He urged the general public to support and report any similar illegal activities to make the region a safer place.
“We take pride in the ongoing success of our efforts, including the apprehension of drug suspects and the seizure of suspected illegal substances. These drug pushers and users will surely be put behind bars,” he said.
