Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has become a beloved household name in the Philippines as a company that brings delicious Filipino cooking to life while contributing to the improvement of nutrition. APC also aims to become a prime mover in sustainability and in the protection of the environment having various initiatives as realization of its Eat Well Live Well promise.

One of the sterling testaments to this commitment is the partnership with Meralco-owned solar company MSpectrum for the solar power energization of the Ajinomoto Philippines Flavor Food factory in Bulacan since June 2022. And just last December 2023, the Bulacan factory is operating on 100% renewable energy through partnership with Ayala-owned ACEN. This adoption of 100% renewable energy aims to effectively reduce the carbon footprint of the factory.

This milestone move is part of the APC Group Roadmap to reduce its environmental impact by 50% by the year 2030, through the transitioning of all factories to utilize 100% renewable energy by 2025.

To supplement environmental stewardship projects APC fostered partnership with four leading Filipino waste management organizations: Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST), Envirotech, Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX), and Republic Cement. This partnership helps make the sustainability efforts more feasible, but also inspires new initiatives for a more environmentally sound future for the Philippines.

To further a deeper involvement of its stakeholders, APC, in partnership with Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST), piloted recently the SariCycle Program in Quezon City.

Through SariCycle, sari-sari stores and market stalls will be given the opportunity to participate in an incentivized or reward system driven program that aims to manage plastic waste through a plastic collection system.

The sari-sari and market stall owners or the SariCyclers will receive environmental points for the flexible plastics collected. These points can be redeemed to purchase supplemental household necessities in partner establishments.

The inclusive plastic collection program aims to encourage patrons of the sari-sari stores to own their share in helping build a sustainable community for themselves, which will later inspire neighboring communities as well to take positive action in achieving a zero-waste environment.

“We in Ajinomoto Philippines congratulate the Manila Standard on its 37th Anniversary and are honored to partner with them more in our commitment to a more sustainable future for the country,” ended Ernie Carlos, APC Chief Sustainability Officer.
