CAAP launches breastfeeding, kids’ play stations in Bohol airport

Traveling is now made more caring and convenient for mothers and their children, as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) launched breastfeeding and play stations at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA).

Lawyer Rafael Tatlonghari, CAAP Area 7 manager, said these latest facilities offer a comfortable space for nursing mothers and a fun place for children before their flights to various destinations. Airport staff can be approached to access the areas.

The project was an initiative of the BPIA Gender and Development (GAD) committee to provide efficient and relaxing experiences for air travelers. CAAP recently conducted a workshop to enhance its understanding of GAD policies and mandates, and improve its handling of gender-related issues.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the main goal was to formulate policies on Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI), plan GAD budgets, and develop what the agency described as the “Mapagkalingang Paliparan (Caring Airport) Program.”

This is part of BPIA’s commitment to improving its services. In 2018, it was recognized as the first eco-friendly airport in the country, showcasing green and sustainable structures, such as solar panels.

CAAP also introduced cost-effective improvised pushcarts for passengers at Davao International Airport. The airport initially deployed seven units of light tubular frames at the departure area. There are still materials available to fabricate and deploy 20 more units.

Davao Area Manager Rex Obcena said the materials only cost around P2,000, making it significantly cheaper than commercial pushcarts that range from P10,000 to P35,000, exclusive of freight costs, customs taxes, and suppliers’ profits.

Rolling out these innovative pushcarts signifies the airport’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and providing comfortable travel for passengers.
