Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. ordered the suspension of 26 officials and employees for alleged grave misconduct, dishonesty, neglect of duty and violation of rules.
Lumagui said his mission is to have an agency filled with professionals who have integrity.
“The suspension of 26 BIR officials shows our commitment to the Filipino people. You deserve only the best in public service. The BIR will continue to create a culture of professionalism and integrity under my watch,” he said.
The BIR filed charges with preventive suspension orders against 21 employees. The agency said of the total, 18 were implemented and three were due for implementation. It also penalized five employees, bringing the total suspended employees to 26.
Lumagui said the BIR suspended the 26 officials and employees because of their alleged acts constituting grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, gross neglect of duty, violation of reasonable office rules and regulations, violation of the Anti-Red Tape Act of 1997 and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
