The director of Asawa Ng Asawa Ko, Laurice Guillen, spoke highly of the cast of the series, particularly praising lead stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Rayver Cruz, and Liezel Lopez. The seasoned director mentioned that everyone had to audition for their roles, emphasizing the depth and weight of the characters’ journeys.
“The emotional requirements of their characters are profound and not to be taken lightly. That’s why everyone auditioned. It’s challenging to portray a role when the experience is far from your own,” Guillen told Manila Standard Entertainment in an interview.
Guillen highlighted the rigorous audition process each cast member underwent, underscoring the depth and complexity of their characters’ journeys. Despite varying levels of experience among the cast, the director commended their dedication to tackling the challenging narrative.
“This is the story of Jasmine’s character,” Guillen pointed out. “The requirements for her, as well as for Liezel and Rayver, are substantial. But we found the right people; they were willing to go all the way with us on this journey.
The series follows the story of Cristy and Jordan, played by Curtis-Smith and Cruz, respectively. A tragic twist ensues when Cristy is abducted by the rebel group “Kalasag,” leading Jordan to find solace in the arms of his friend, Shaira, portrayed by Lopez.
Guillen, while recognizing the difficulty in evaluating whether the actors lived up to the characters’ expectations, praised their commitment, emphasizing that it brought them to the pinnacle of their performances.
“Sometimes it takes time because the characters are far from their own experiences, but they make many changes. Even as the director, it’s hard to say if they measure up, but all I can say is that their willingness brought them here, and they portrayed the characters based on the story’s requirements,” the director said.
The central conflict of the series revolves around Cristy’s return after escaping captivity and the ensuing struggle between the first wife and the second wife for Jordan’s affections.
Playing the role of villains in the series as members of “Kalasag” are Kim De Leon as Kuwago, the team’s spotter; Bruce Roeland as Bakulaw, the member who is best in martial arts; Luis Hontiveros as Alakdan, Leon’s right hand and the sniper of the group; Patricia Coma as Billie/Pusa, Leon’s daughter who is also a sharpshooter; Jennifer Maravilla as Sawa, the financier of Kalasag; Billie Hakenson as Buwaya, the gossiper and thief who is good in disguising; Ian Ignacio as Igat, the asset of the rebels; and Mariz Ricketts as Pusit, the group’s mother figure.
Completing the star-studded cast are Crystal Paras as Nonette, Cristy’s supportive best friend, Quinn Carillo as Leslie, Shaira’s close friend, and Gina Alajar as Carmen, the overprotective mother of Cristy.
Asawa Ng Asawa Ko, according to Guillen, promises a gripping narrative filled with twists and turns, exploring the lengths people go to protect their loved ones. Produced by GMA Entertainment Group, the series premieres tonight 9:35 on GMA Prime.
