Jacob Cortez is definitely following in his dad’s footsteps.

The 5’10” Cortez is transferring to the La Salle Green Archers and is expected to suit up in the 89th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.

With talks getting finalized, Cortez’s transfer will allow him to do what his father Mike did.

Mike, known as the “Cool Cat,” played in three seasons for the Green Archers from 2000 to 2002 and helped the Franz Pumaren-coached squad win two UAAP championships.

His entry into the Green Archers squad comes a day after he formally left the San Beda University Red Lions.

Cortez left the team just a month after he led San Beda to its first National Collegiate Athletic Association title in five seasons.

“There’s interest from La Salle,” said Cortez in his Facebook page.

The last time he played, Cortez averaged 15.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 23 games in the NCAA’s 99th seasons with the Red Lions.

The Green Archers currently have openings at the point guard position, since they will be missing graduating players like Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy, Francis Escandor and Joaqui Manuel.

Without the four, the coaching staff of the Green Archers still have faith in the remaining veterans, Kevin Quiambao, Michael Philips and Jonel Policarpio in their journey to become the next players who can provide leadership on the floor.
