Jordan Clarkson went into celebration with his Utah team on Monday evening, as he got off the bench for a triple-double feat that no Jazz player has ever done for the last 15 years.
Scoring 20 points to go with 11 assists and 10 rebounds, Clarkson went on to help push the Jazz to a 127-90 triumph over the Luka Doncic-led Dallas Mavericks in their 2023-2024 NBA season encounter in Salt Lake City.
Clarkson’s performance was the first regular-season triple-double by a Utah player since 2008 as it led the Jazz to a 15-19 win-loss record in the Northwest Division.
It was Clarkson’s first triple-double of his career and also the first for the Jazz in a regular-season game.
Carlos Boozer last did it on Feb. 13, 2008.
“All the way up to the rebound, I was a little nervous,” said Clarkson after the game.
And for someone coming off the bench, Clarkson’s triple-double was also the first in 40 years for a Jazz cager, since Mark Eaton tallied 12 points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks back in 1983.
A big celebration from Jazz fans also erupted after the game after Utah went on to beat the Mavericks by a 37-point margin, with Doncic finishing with a team-high 19 points, 14 assists and six rebounds.
“He’s adapted to a new role and he’s really trying to expand how he contributes to winning,” said Jazz coach Will Hardy.
Simone Fontecchio led the Jazz with 24 points, while Lauri Markkanen added 17 points, and John Collins chipped in 15.
