The Office for Transportation Security has commended the honesty and integrity of an airport screening officer after he turned over to airport management a bag containing P183,000 and other valuable items.

The honesty of Security Screening Officer (SSO) Mike John De Chavez was tested when he discovered a lost bag at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 and turned it over to the terminal’s Lost and Found Section.

The bag also contained a mobile phone, jewelry, a passbook, and other personal items.

“While performing routine security screening procedures, SSO De Chavez discovered a backpack left behind by a passenger on the x-ray machine.

Without hesitation, he promptly reported the incident to his checkpoint supervisor, Enrico Mauricio,” said OTS Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Jose Briones Jr.

Airport officials located the woman owner of the bag who immediately claimed her the lost and found item. The woman thanked Chavez, his supervisor, and their team, who she said were “honest and efficient in their efforts.”

Briones also praised his men, stating that the item was promptly and responsibly returned to the lost and found section, ensuring its return to its rightful owner.

“Our OTS personnel are demonstrating concern, honesty, and sincerity towards passengers, especially during this Christmas time. They are committed to ensuring their (passengers) safe and secure journey, following the instructions of President Marcos and DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, to assist in any way possible,” the office chief said.
