Filipinas rise to best ever 38th spot in FIFA rankings

The Philippine women’s national football team ended the year with its best ever spot in the FIFA women’s football world rankings at no. 38.

The rise in their position, which is six places from no. 44 came after their campaign after in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The Filipinas went past Chile, Jamaica, Hungary, Chinese Taipei, Costa Rica and Slovenia in the current placings.

Spain and the United States stayed at no. 1 and 2, while France went two notches up, past England to no. 3.

The Philippines, with new coach Mark Torcasos handling them, fell to powerhouse Australia, but won against Chinese Taipei and Iran during the qualifiers.

The Filipinas, under coach Allen Stajcic, made their presence in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they upset New Zealand.

Later this year, the Filipinas made it to the Asian Games quarterfinals.

Philippine Football Federation officials, under the new leadership of John Anthony Gutierrez, are upbeat that the rise in rankings of the Filipinas will continue.

They expressed their confidence that they will do well in the coming year with several international matches that have been calendared for the Filipinas.
