Sharon Cuneta lauds Alden Richards, hails new film as cinematic triumph

Sharon Cuneta expresses her admiration for Alden Richards following their collaboration in Cineko Productions’ Family of Two (A Mother and Son Story), one of the entries in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival.

Megastar describes it as one of the most joyful experiences in her extensive career, spanning 45 years.

Cuneta acknowledges that working with Alden has given her a deeper understanding of his well-deserved success, emphasizing his humility. Drawing a parallel with past luminaries she has worked with, Cuneta notes that truly significant stars, like Alden, are consistently humble, making him a part of an elite group in the industry.

“You know, it’s not just about being popular. It’s about staying power. For sure, Alden will have that. He’s handsome and a good actor. He’s a great co-worker. His face and pair of expressive eyes are made for the screen,” she says.

How did they make their scenes so realistic?

“It’s because I really treated him as if he were my own son. Doing our scenes was simply effortless. They were all so automatic. I felt that he was my son, and Alden also gave back the same feeling to me, as if I were his mother.

“I’ve given my one hundred fifty percent, acting-wise in this movie. No inhibitions whatsoever. If I could only adopt him,” she says in jest.

Cuneta is very proud of this project directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval. She’s also glad to have worked with a wonderful cast.

“Of course, apart from Alden, there’s Miles Ocampo, Pepe Herrera, Jackielou Blanco, Tonton Gutierrez, Soliman Cruz, Donna Cariaga, Carla Guevarra, Adriana So, Chris Tan, and Justine Luzares. All of them did great in the film. Truly, we’re like one big, happy family on the set,” Mega states.

In a recent interview, Janella Salvador admitted that there was a point when she didn’t want to appear in horror or suspense thriller projects, fearing she would get typecast. It’s worth noting that her debut on the silver screen was in Haunted Mansion in 2015, followed by Bloody Crayons in 2017. She then headlined the popular soap opera Killer Bride in 2019. However, when the opportunity to work on Mallari came her way, she reconsidered.

Initially wary of horror projects and typecasting, Janella changed her stance after reading Mallari’s script. The film delves into Juan Severino Mallari’s story, the first documented serial killer in the Philippines during the Spanish regime.

Janella lauded the well-crafted narrative and characters, urging viewers to watch. In 2024, she anticipates more films and a successful concert, while keeping her personal life private, focusing on her son, Jude Trevor, with ex-partner Markus Paterson.

“I hope that I’ll be doing more film projects next year. I want to explore the world of cinema. I also wish that my concert will push through this 2024. You see, I have lots of exciting things lined up for me, so I hope all of these will materialize!”

When it comes to her personal life, Janella is mum. It can be remembered that it was September of last year when she revealed that she and actor Markus Paterson are no longer together.

“At present, we’re both happy as individuals, and our main concern is our son Jude Trevor,” she concluded.
