The Taguig City government launched its pet microchip program on Dec. 6 to bolster pet safety and responsible ownership.

More than 220 pets received microchips during the event held at the Lakeshore Hall in Bicutan, in collaboration with Petdentity Philippines Inc.

Mayor Laarni Cayetano noted the benefits of the RFID microchip, highlighting its permanence and unique identification capabilities.

The microchip contains information about both the owner and the pet, including vaccine records, and is accessible through a user-friendly web app.

“This microchip program will greatly assist in reuniting lost pets with their owners quickly and accurately,” Cayetano said.

Microchip scanners were distributed to all barangays in the city.

Beyond identification, the program also provided comprehensive healthcare services for pets.

About 300 pets received anti-rabies vaccinations, while 312 were dewormed and 317 received essential vitamin shots.

Another 571 pets received consultations for various health concerns.

Spay and neuter services were offered to 417 pets, promoting responsible pet ownership and aiding in population control.

Taguig said the initiative demonstrates the city’s commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

The program’s comprehensive approach ensures the well-being of pets and fosters a stronger bond between owners and their furry companions, it said.
