The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Friday the Parade of Stars for the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival will be held on Dec. 16, 2023 in the Camanava area covering the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.
A first for the MMFF, the parade will traverse 8.7 kilometers of route across four cities, showcasing floats carrying stars representing the ten films in this year’s lineup.
The MMDA advised motorists to avoid the parade route as thousands are expected to witness the star-studded event. Starting at 2 p.m., the parade will kick off from the Navotas Centennial Park, traveling through C-4 Road, Samson Road, and McArthur Highway, culminating at the Valenzuela People’s Park. The 8.7-km. route will take about three hours to complete.
It said that to ensure a smooth flow and the safety of participants and spectators, it collaborated with the parade’s host cities, Philippine National Police, Office of Civil Defense and other concerned agencies. MMDA chief and MMFF overall chairman Don Artes said that 1,000 personnel, including traffic enforcers, emergency responders, and public safety officers, would be deployed along the route.
This year’s MMFF is presented in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, with proceeds supporting film industry beneficiaries like the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation Inc. and the Motion Picture and Anti-Film Piracy Council.
The parade will feature floats carrying stars representing the 10 films in this year’s lineup: “A Family of 2 (A Mother and Son Story),” “(K)Ampon,” “Penduko,” “Rewind,” “Becky and Badette,” “Broken Heart’s Trip,” “Firefly,” “GomBurZa,” “Mallari,” and “When I Met You in Tokyo.”
The MMDA said it would implement temporary lane closures and counterflow from 12 noon to 8 p.m. along C-4 Road (from Navotas Centennial Park to A. Mabini Street), Samson Road (from A. Mabini Street to Monumento Circle), and Mc Arthur Highway (from Monumento Circle to C. Santos Street).
