Non-government organization Save the Children has made it easier for Filipinos to share the ‘malasakit’ this yuletide season through ‘Tayo ang Pasko.’
The campaign aims to not only keep poverty-stricken Pinoy kids well-fed this Christmas but also set them up for a life of opportunity through education and good health.
On top of this, the initiative seeks to kickstart a conversation about the factors contributing to hunger in the Philippines.
To truly provide a lasting solution, the origin of the issue needs to be brought to light said Save the Children CEO Atty. Alberto Muyot.
“There are so many things that we have to understand kung bakit nagugutom ang mga batang Pilipino at why through the years hindi pa natin completely natutugunan itong problemang ito,” he said.
Muyot hopes that this year’s ‘Tayo ang Pasko’ sparks a wave of change in Filipinos – that they continue to offer support to underprivileged children all year round not just on Christmas.
“Hindi lang po ito isang kampanya, this is also, siguro, ay mantra. ‘Di ba? Ito na siguro yung something that will guide us in the way that we will be. We look at Christmas as a time for giving as a time for sharing. Bakit di natin i-extend ito? ‘Di lamang sa Pasko itself but even for other days of the year.”
Besides the usual donation, individuals who would like to participate in the campaign can avail of the ‘Fulfillment Band,” which symbolizes hope and collective effort.
There’s also ‘Gift to Save,’ which is geared towards companies and their corporate social responsibility programs.
