Dumaguete LGU holds 2023 Children’s Congress

For many years, thousands of children have benefitted from the various programs, projects, and activities implemented by the administration of Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo to protect their rights and promote their welfare.

Assistant City Administrator Dinno T. Depositario, who represented Remollo, highlighted the achievements of the Local Government in safeguarding the mental, physical, emotional, and physiological needs of the young during the Children’s Congress last Saturday attended by City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lilibeth Filipinas, Councilor Maria Marife Cordova, and other stakeholders.

In his State of the Children’s Address, Mayor Remollo enumerated some of the programs and interventions of the City Government of Dumaguete in support of our young, including supplemental feeding for almost 3,000 underweight, stunted, and wasted preschool children.

Hundreds of pupils received school supplies, uniforms, and bags; P1 million food and educational assistance for 400 children in shelters; operation of 57 accredited Day Care Centers; scholarship grants to almost a thousand students; assistance for sexually abused children that include temporary shelters, medical and legal aid; prenatal and postpartum care; multi-vitamins supplement for target children; COVID-19 vaccination for 12, 534 children and oral health care.

Depositario also administered the oath of office to the newly elected Children’s Representative officers.

In the meantime, Remollo commended the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of Justice, City Health Office, City Nutrition Office, City Population Office, Department of Education, Dumaguete Police Station, and non-government organizations for their constant support in the protection and development of children.
