TripZilla, a digital travel company in Southeast Asia, named the Philippines as the Destination of the Year in its 9th annual awards.
The Philippines bagged back-to-back wins as this year’s favorite destination among travelers and fourth most desirable country for adventure by TripZilla and Wanderlust magazine, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said Monday.
“We are grateful for the global affirmation given to the extensive work that has been done to develop and promote our country. These recognitions underscore the Philippines’ stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and Filipino brand of service excellence that makes for an enhanced Philippine tourism experience under the Marcos Administration,” said DOT Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Frasco.
“On behalf of the Department of Tourism, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has risen to our President’s call for tourism transformation, which expands opportunities for livelihood and employment, driving the growth of the Philippine economy further,” she said.
TripZilla cited the Philippines not only for its popular tourist attractions but also for under-the-radar tourist offerings fit for all travel preferences. The wide range of tourist offerings keeps visitors coming back again to the country, it said.
The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), an attached agency of the DOT in charge of marketing and promotions, also won the Sustainability Leader of the Year for Asia from the same award-giving body.
Meanwhile, travel magazine Wanderlust regarded the Philippines as the 4th Most Desirable Country for Adventure on its 22nd Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
Jordan, one of the historic countries in the Middle East, topped this year’s list, followed by Peru, the United States and India.
The Philippines bested tourist-favorites Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Chile.
