The Gaza Strip conundrum

The on-going hostilities between Israel and the Hamas organization has not only resulted in massive deaths on both sides, but has also ignited a propaganda war.

Israel was established in 1948. Prior to 1948, the land known today as Israel used to be Palestine.

The Palestinians believe Israel seized Palestinian territory and, accordingly, many contemporary Palestinians do not recognize Israeli sovereignty over territory that used to belong to their ancestors.

Hamas was founded in 1987 as a Sunni Islamist political and military resistance group that operates inside the Gaza Strip, which is part of the official territory of Israel.

Its avowed objective, as admitted in its public announcements, is the total destruction of Israel and the elimination of all Israelis.

To achieve that objective, Hamas resorts to terrorism.

Israel, the United States and several other countries consider Hamas as a terrorist organization.

It is an open secret that the rich and powerful Jewish American lobby in the United States Congress makes sure that Washington, D.C. will always help Israel in any armed conflict.

When Jewish American money talks, American politicians listen.

On Oct 7, 2023, thousands of Hamas terrorists launched a surprise attack at key areas in southern and central Israel. An estimated 3,000 rockets were fired at Israeli population centers, killing thousands.

Hamas also abducted many Israeli civilians as well as men, women and children of different nationalities who happened to be in the affected areas. They were brought inside the Gaza Strip where they are currently kept as hostages.

The Hamas military commander took responsibility for the attack.

Iran promptly praised Hamas for the attack and urged the Arab world to join forces with Hamas and eradicate Israel from the world map.

After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared his country is at war, he ordered the Israeli military to launch reprisal attacks at the Gaza Strip.

Immediately thereafter, the Israeli government gave all Israelis and foreign nationals inside the Gaza Strip and nearby areas a window of several hours to evacuate.

When the window expired, the Israeli military pounded the Gaza Strip with, among others, rockets.

Although the Israelis aimed at Hamas military targets inside the Gaza Strip, particularly the numerous underground tunnels used by Hamas terrorists to penetrate populated areas inside Israel, there were innocent civilian casualties, including children.

Soon thereafter, water, power and telecommunications lines to the Gaza Strip were disconnected.

Food, medicine and fuel supplies bound for the Gaza Strip were blocked by Israeli military ground forces. Overnight, the Gaza Strip became hell on earth.

Meanwhile, the pounding of the Gaza Strip continued.

As expected, the United Nations and its attached agencies sought a temporary ceasefire between both parties to the armed conflict.

The ceasefire was needed for supplying civilians and hospitals caught in the crossfire of the affected areas.

Netanyahu refuses to agree to any temporary ceasefire because to do so is tantamount to Israel and the civilized world surrendering to Hamas.

He reminded the world that Hamas also killed and held hostage many citizens of other countries who were in Israel last October 7.

An angry Netanyahu said the United States did not agree to any ceasefire after Japan made a surprise aerial attack on the American naval base in Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in December 1941, which opened the Pacific theater of World War II.

Being so, Netanyahu said, he finds no reason for Israel to agree to a ceasefire.

Netanyahu maintains the continuous bombardment of the Gaza Strip is necessary to put an end to the Hamas menace once and for all.

Further, Netanyahu revealed that Hamas operatives already attacked a nearby UN center where they diverted UN food, medicine and fuel supplies to Hamas guerillas fighting Israeli miltary ground forces.

Any supplies meant for civilians in the Gaza Strip, Netanyahu said, will only be diverted by Hamas to its armed militants.

To that, UN spokesmen and pro-Hamas elements say Netanyahu is guilty of genocide for refusing humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.

Despite 120 countries voting in favor of a resolution before the United Nations on Oct 27, 2023, imploring for a “humanitarian truce” in the war in Gaza, to which, a mere 14 countries voted against this resolution, it appears Israel is hell-bent on ending this war with more violence.

To this end, Israel is preparing a massive ground counter-offensive involving half a million personnel.

It seems the resolution of the Gaza Strip conundrum would be painted by blood and paved by dead bodies of many, including non-combatants.

After all, those involved are humans, although not necessarily, humane. Unfortunately.
