Blackwater gets big lift from FIBA World Cup veteran Ortiz

The Blackwater Elite Bossings wanted to the make an impression in their first game in the 48th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Puerto Rican import Chris Ortiz made sure of it with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds to power the Bossings to a 103-84 smothering of the Converge Fiber Xers on Wednesday night.

Ortiz went on to lead five local teammates, who also scored in double digits like him, with Jayvee Casio knocking 15 points and Myke Ayonayon shooting 13.

“It’s one of those things that you want to get under your belt, a first win,” said debuting Jeffrey Cariaso on his first win as a Blackwater coach.

Rey Suerte contributed 12 points, Troy Rosario made 11 points and Tyrus Hill sank 10 points for the Bossings, who took charge following a big run in the second period.

The 6’8” Ortiz played for Puerto Rico’s national team in the FIBA World Cup recently.

The Bossings were in complete control of the fourth, taking a 27-point edge off Bradwyn Guinto’s back-to-back baskets, 91-64, with 8:04 left.
