Trade promotion events yield nearly $1 billion

The Export Management Bureau (EMD) said Monday it booked potential sales of nearly $1 billion from trade promotion events in the first nine months of 2023

EMB director Bianca Sykimte said the agency participated in 36 trade promotion events from January to September which generated about $970 million in sales.

EMB’s initiatives on trade promotions yielded $7 million from the Gamescom in Germany; $46 million from External Development Summit in Canada; $10 million in Anuga, Germany: $3 million from the Malaysia International Halal Showcase: $26 million from the Natural Product Expo East in the US; P6 million from World Coconut Congress, Philippines; P3 million from the Philippine Die & Mold Machineries & Equipment Exhibition; $1.1 million from the Philippine Semiconductor & Electronics Convention and Exhibition; $3.7 million of partial bookings from the Manila FAME; and P17 million from the International Mining Conference.

The bureau said it also conducted 27 Usapang Exports information sessions, 7 of which had discussions on free trade agreements (FTAs) including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and one-on-one consultations with exporters on how to avail of FTAs.

The EMB is looking at a 5 percent growth on merchandise and services exports this year from last year’s $98 billion.
