Bulacan lawmaker accepts failed cityhood bid

San Jose del Monte City Rep. Florida Robes said she accepts the will of the people of Bulacan in rejecting efforts to transform the component city into a Highly Urbanized City.

Robes, who spearheaded the campaign for HUCn said the Bulakenyos have spoken in the recent plebiscite that coincided with the barangay elections on October 30.

“We sincerely thank all our beloved San Joseños and our fellow Bulakenyos for your participation in the previous plebiscite,” said Robes, chairperson of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.

“Although the campaign we advocated failed, we fully accept the will of the people. This is the spirit of our democracy, and you can count on our full support,” she added.

More than 800,000 voters rejected SJDM’s conversion into a highly urbanized city.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando and former Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmimo Alvarado actively campaigning against SJDM’s bid to become an HUC.

Fernando and Alvarado said the move would result in loss of jobs and increase in local government fees.
