Children and minors are bound to enjoy free train rides on Monday (Nov. 6) as a gift from Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT 3) in celebration of National Children’s Month, GMA News reported.
“We are very happy to announce that for the 2023 National Children’s Month celebration, may libreng sakay po ang mga bata sa MRT-3,” National Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) Executive Director Angelo Tapales told PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas on Thursday.
“Yung mga bata po na covered nito ay mga nasa grade school hanggang senior high school, so below 18 years old (The children covered by the free rides are those in grade school up to senior high school, meaning those below 18 years old),” Tapales said.
The free ride service will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The CWC clarified that accompanying adults will have to pay their fares.
Last Aug. 1-6, MRT3 also offered free rides to blind and visually-impaired passengers in celebration of the White Cane Safety Day.
The late former President Corazon Aquino in 1989 signed Republic Act 6759, which declared August 1 as White Cane Safety Day to raise awareness on the plight of the blind.
Passengers only need to present their persons with disability (PWD) identification card to ride for free.
Each blind or visually impaired passenger is also allowed to bring one companion who also got a free ride.
