Taguig City was recognized in the 2023 Urban Governance Exemplary Awards by the Department of Interior and Local Government – National Capital Region.
The local government received an 87.50 percent Highly Functional score for the 2023 Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Audit, 83 percent Ideal Functional score for the 2023 Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking – Violence Against Women and their Children Functionality Audit, and Exemplary Performance for the 2021 Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit.
Mayor Laarni Cayetano led the city government in implementing programs like Legal Advocacy for Women and Children’s Protection, which aims to protect women and their children from abusive households and relationships.
To further safeguard the welfare of the youth, Taguig established a hotline for Child and Youth Welfare Protection. This initiative addresses various concerns, including cyber threats, sexual exploitation, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and human trafficking.
In the battle against drug abuse, the local government intensified its efforts with the conduct of drug abuse prevention seminars, implementation of mandatory drug tests for government employees, and enforcement of a one-strike policy. These showed the city’s commitment to creating a drug-free environment, leading to the successful declaration of ten barangays as drug-cleared.
Taguig also ensured that the city is child-friendly through the development of integrated parks in barangays, providing a safe space for recreation and relaxation to Taguigueño children.
Mayor Cayetano said these recognitions underscore Taguig’s unwavering dedication to progress. She added her administration will continue advancing the programs, aspiring to build an inclusive, safe, and healthy community for its constituents.
