QUEZON City Mayor Joy Belmonte has maintained her stance to stay non-partisan in the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Oct. 30.

“I do not interfere with the barangay and SK elections,” she told the Manila Standard. “Well for me, I call for an orderly and peaceful election.”

The Commission on Elections stressed that candidates for the 2023 BSKE may be endorsed by incumbent officials but they must not be part of any political parties.

Belmonte, however, emphasized that the BSKE should be non-partisan.

Last June, the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional Republic Act 11935, the law that postponed the conduct of the BSKE from the original date of Dec. 5, 2022, to the last Monday of a October 2023.

It gave the green light to hold the BSKE on Oct. 30.
