Taguig City cops hailed for resisting bribe

The Southern Police District has commended members of the Taguig City Police for rejecting P30,000 bribe money offered by a Malaysian national who tried to negotiate the release of his friend from detention.

Jack Boo, 33, was placed under arrest for violation of Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code after he offered money to officers inside Taguig City Police Substation 1 in Bonifacio Global City.

Investigation showed that Boo went to the substation and tried to bribe the arresting officers in exchange for the release of his friend identified only as alias Chong who was arrested earlier for alarm and scandal, unjust vexation, and oral defamation.

It stated that the police officers were conducting a routine patrol in the area of The Fort Strip along 5th Avenue when they saw Chiong, apparently under the influence of alcohol and smoking in a no-smoking zone.

The officers approached and informed Chiong about the no-smoking policy. Instead of complying, the suspect insulted the officers. His disruptive behavior in the area led to his arrest.

SPD director Brig. Gen. Roderick Mariano praised the exemplary conduct of the arresting officers who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to upholding the law.

“These commendable officers resisted attempts of bribery and steadfastly enforced the rightful laws, embodying the highest standards of professionalism,” he said.

Mariano also emphasized the importance of these actions in maintaining the public’s trust in law enforcement.

“By rejecting bribes and adhering strictly to legal protocols, these officers have not only upheld their professional ethics but have also reinforced the community’s confidence in the police force,” he said.
