Gadgets retailer Upson International Corp. said Tuesday it will open a new warehouse in Metro Manila in December 2023.
Upson said in a statement the new facility would support the growing customer base across Metro Manila and the neighboring provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Bulacan and Pampanga.
The facility is at Port of Manila, which is also the headquarters of several technology brand suppliers. It will also complement the company’s existing facilities in Metro Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao.
“Achieving our long-term strategy requires investment in supply chain capacity and infrastructure to improve our overall performance and maintain our leadership in the industry” said Upson chief executive Arlene Sy.
“The strategic location of this warehouse gives us proximity advantages. Being near our customers and suppliers drives competitiveness and sustainability by enabling delivery speed, optimizing costs, and reducing road transport and its associated emissions. Its short distance to our other warehouse and headquarters can also boost efficiency and productivity in operations,” Sy said.
The six-story building has a total floor area of 7,047 square meters, with four floors for warehouse use and two floors for loading and unloading and parking.
Construction began in September 2021 and was 83-percent complete as of Aug. 15, 2023, it said.
The company was listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange in April when it raised P1.65 billion. It plans to use the proceeds to finance store network expansion, including opening of new branches, warehouse facilities and distribution centers.
Other locations identified for future warehouse expansion are Cabanatuan, Dagupan, Naga, Palawan, Iloilo, Bacolod, General Santos and Zamboanga.
Upson is the largest IT retailer in the Philippines with over 200 stores. It operates through its retail brands Octagon, Micro Valley, Gadget King, Octagon Mobile and other concept stores.
