FIBA basketball fans fill up NCR hotels

The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported a spike in hotel occupancy rates in the nine official hotels for the Philippine leg of FIBA World Cup held on Aug. 25 to Sept. 10, 2023 in Metro Manila.

Based on the report of DOT National Capital Region, Conrad Manila reported a 100-percent average hotel occupancy during the period. Other hotels in Pasay also saw higher occupancy average including Hotel 101-Manila and Microtel MOA which both reported 92 percent occupancy rate; Hilton Manila, 91.8 percent; and TRYP MOA, 91 percent. Grand Hyatt Manila in Taguig reported an impressive 96-percent hotel occupancy rate during the FIBA period.

The DOT’s Statistics, Economic Analysis and Information Management Division (SEAIMD) also reported increase in the volume of visitor arrivals to the Philippines from countries with FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 participating teams from July 1 to Sept. 12.

It said of the 20 countries with teams that competed in the sporting event, almost half registered a growth rate of more than 100 percent.  These included Dominican Republic with 700 percent growth, Latvia with 600 percent, China with 595.85 percent, Lithuania with 444.58 percent and Serbia with 429.07 percent.
