The Department of Energy plans to come out with a roadmap for energy storage systems (ESS), including pumped storage hydro (PSH) to help accelerate the development of renewable energy sources.
It said in a draft circular it would issue additional policies and mobilize key government agencies and entities to increase the portfolio of existing ESS units and facilities and help achieve an efficient level of generation capacities and ancillary services in the grid.
The agency said it would determine the optimal level, timing, locations and specifications of PSH/ESS to attain and complement the RE targets pursuant to the Philippine Energy Plan.
It will identify the sites and commercial operation schedules for PSH/ESS, including the necessary transmission and distribution lines and connections and other related infrastructure.
