Only one barangay captain is running unopposed in Taguig City for the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Of the 37 barangay captains in Taguig City, including the 10 former Makati barangays that were transferred to Taguig City, only Marie F. Marcelino, the incumbent barangay captain of Barangay Ususan in this city, has emerged as the sole candidate without opponents.

Known to her constituents as “Wonder Kap”, the two-termer barangay captain will thus lead one of Taguig City’s most populated barangays for another term.
Marcelino was first elected as barangay captain in 2013 and was re-elected for a second term in 2018. She was also unopposed five years ago.
“Ako po ay lubos-pusong nagpapasalamat sa pagmamahal, pagtitiwala at suporta ng aking mga kabarangay. Ang pagtakbo ng walang kalaban sa nalalapit na barangay at SK elections ay isang pagsalamin ng pagkakaisa sa ating barangay,” Marcelino said.
“To serve my constituents is one of my life’s greatest blessing. I will continue to lead Barangay Ususan forward with integrity,” she said.
Marcelino was recently hailed as the Most Outstanding Public Servant in the Dangal ng Lahing Filipino Awards.
The Dangal ng Lahi Awards, a distinguished institution in the Philippines, bestows the coveted award upon individuals who have made significant contributions to elevate the lives of their fellow citizens and foster community development.
One of Marcelino’s flagship programs is the provision of free medical services, including laboratory tests and check-ups, to her constituents.
“The savings are substantial for our residents. A urine test would cost around P50 to P150, a complete blood count test around P300 to P500, and a complete blood chemistry package priced at P3,200 in private diagnostic centers – all of these services are provided free in Barangay Ususan,” Marcelino said.
“This program was conceptualized to provide health security among our constituents as part of our poverty alleviation program, which was made possible through the help of Taguig City LGU under the administration of Mayor Lani Cayetano,” Marcelino said.
Marcelino’s initiatives also include food security program in partnership with Rise Against Hunger Philippines, targeting zero hunger and zero waste in the barangay and improving the barangay’s disaster resiliency.
