‘Goring’ poised to reach super typhoon level

Typhoon “Goring” continued to intensify while moving southward over the sea east of Cagayan and may reach super typhoon category on Monday, the state weather bureau said.

“Due to the highly favorable environment, ‘Goring’ is forecast to steadily intensify throughout most of the forecast period and may reach super typhoon category on Monday,” PAGASA said yesterday.

Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 3 was raised over the northeastern portion of Cagayan and extreme eastern portion of Isabela.

Signal no. 2 was hoisted over the eastern portion of Isabela, eastern portion of Cagayan and northern portion of Aurora, while signal no. 1 was in effect over Batanes, the rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, northern and central portion of Aurora, Quirino, the rest of Isabela, Apayao, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Abra, eastern portion of Ilocos Norte, Polillo Islands, eastern portion of Benguet, eastern portion of Nueva Ecija and Calaguas Islands.

“Goring” was moving southward at 10 km/h, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.
