20 barangays advance to Angeles inter-barangay contest quarter finals

ANGELES CITY — Twenty barangays are among the quarter-finalists in the second edition of the inter-barangay contest dubbed as “Gawad Parangal sa mga Pinakamalinis, Luntiang, Ligtas, at Kaayaayang Pamayanan (Pogi Ya Ing Barangay Ku).”

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. said the project aims to promote sustainable programs for participatory governance, environmental management, peace and order, and disaster risk reduction management.

Among the quarter-finalist barangays are Balibago, Capaya, Claro M. Recto, Cuayan, Cutud, Lourdes Sur, Lourdes Sur East, Mining, Pampang, Pandan, Pulung Maragul, San Jose, San Nicolas, Sapangbato, Sta. Trinidad, Sto. Cristo, Sto. Domingo, Sto. Rosario, Tabun, and Virgen Delos Remedios.

A team from the Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel with the panel of evaluators composed of Environmentalist and Veteran Broadcaster Cecil Yumul; Edna Marissa Simbre of Department of Environment and Natural Resources—EMB Region III; Lodislao Puno III of Department of the Interior and Local Government – Angeles City; and Lisa Juco of Office of the Civil Defense Region III, held its table top evaluation last May 29 to 31, 2023.

The on-site evaluation of the top 20 quarter-finalist barangays will follow.

“This is to build back better communities which encourage implementation of intensively and extensively proactive, participative, sound, and sustained programs, projects, and activities on socio-economic, environmental, and risk reduction management,” Lazatin said.

According to Irish Bonus-Llego of ACEDIPO, 30 barangays have joined the contest. From 30 joiners, 20 were concluded as quarter-finalists from the set criteria of the contest which are Urban Farm and Greening Program (35%); Solid Waste Management and General Cleanliness Program (35%); and Disaster Risk Reduction, Peace and Order, Health and Sanitation Program (30%).

“From 20, we will trim it to 12, then top 6, and then finally the top 3,” Bonus-Llego explained.

The grand winner will receive a dump truck with ₱300,000 cash incentive; second placer will get ₱600,000; 3rd placer will receive ₱300,000; top 6 will receive ₱150,000; top 12 will get ₱130,000; top 20 will receive ₱120,000; and a consolation prize of ₱100,000 for non-winner barangays.
