The Anti-Red Tape Authority and the Australian Embassy in the Philippines discussed potential areas of collaboration to engage more investments and increase job opportunities in the Philippines.

ARTA director-general Ernesto Perez said Australian Ambassador Hae Kyong Yu are keen on a potential partnership for the establishment of one-stop shops for foreign companies interested in having businesses in the Philippines.

“We are very excited to work with the Australian Embassy and help interconnect government agencies involved in setting up a one-stop shop for Australian companies,” said Perez.

He said the partnership would also help ARTA coordinate with private sector stakeholders such as the Australian Chamber of Commerce to achieve the shared goal of attracting more investments and creating more jobs in the Philippines.

Another interesting direction of the partnership is the proposed streamlining of processes for recruitment and training of more Filipinos to work in Australia starting with the health sector, and improvement of the regulatory system in the Philippines.

ARTA said the establishment of one-stop shops for foreign companies eyeing to operate businesses in the Philippines would streamline and fast-track the required processes involved, making it easier and faster for them to invest in the country.

The streamlining of the training and recruiting process would make it easier for Filipino workers to obtain the necessary qualifications to work in Australia, which would also help to reduce the red tape involved in the recruitment process, it said.

Yu conveyed Australia’s eagerness to team up with ARTA, noting that the agency has made significant strides in streamlining important industries, such as the telecommunications sector.

“We are impressed with the work that ARTA has done to improve the regulatory environment in the Philippines,” she said.

The Australian Embassy and ARTA also discussed collaborations on economic programs and short courses that are tailored to the needs of the Philippine regulatory system.
