Actress Bea Alonzo is embarking on a new journey as a mentor and judge in the highly anticipated talent competition, Battle of the Judges. The show premieres tomorrow on GMA Network.
Alonzo’s decision to join the program was an easy one, as she immediately recognized the opportunity it presented.
“When the show was presented to me, I had to say yes immediately. I couldn’t turn down this opportunity,” she shared with Manila Standard Entertainment.
With a wealth of previous projects under her belt, Alonzo acknowledges that Battle of the Judges represents an entirely new challenge for her.
While reflecting on her role as a judge and mentor, the actress highlighted the significant shift in responsibility compared to her previous acting endeavors.
“When you’re acting, you’re only responsible for your own character or your own story to tell, but here, you’re responsible for the future of the contestants. It’s no longer about you. It’s very fulfilling, and I’ve learned a lot,” she explained.
Embracing the transformative experience, Alonzo discovered her inner strength and drew inspiration from the people she has worked and collaborated with.
“I learned to be fierce. I realized that I’m my mother’s daughter,” she said in jest.
Despite initially feeling outmatched by her fellow judges, such as Boy Abunda, Annette Gozon, and Jose Manalo, Alonzo’s perspective gradually shifted as she developed a deep sense of maternal care for her contestants. She vowed to fight wholeheartedly for their chance to succeed.
Beyond her role as a mentor, the actress aims to share her industry knowledge and experiences with the contestants, serving as a motivation for their growth.
“After being here for a while, I want to share what I’ve learned in this business with the contestants to motivate them. For me, it’s my way of giving back since this industry has been very good to me and my career,” she expressed.
The TV and box office star also believes this is the perfect opportunity to impart valuable lessons on hard work and constant preparation to aspiring talents.
“Battle of the Judges promises to be more than just a showcase of exceptional skills,” she said emphasizing the importance of storytelling in each performance, as contestants are encouraged to convey their personal backstories and origins. This emotional connection with the audience is paramount to their success.
Alonzo admitted that initially, she felt shy in her role as a judge and mentor but quickly redirected her focus to the contestants. “I’m getting there. At first, I was shy, but then again, it’s not about me. It’s about the contestants,” she revealed.
Hosted by Alden Richards, Battle of the Judges serves as the newest platform for Filipino talents to shine.
The competition between judges begins as they mentor and prepare their squad members for the three levels of competition: Battle of the Best or the elimination round, is the thrilling encounter of 24 squad members who will fight it out in 12 Battles.
