It is up to local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to decide whether or not they will regulate the water usage of certain establishments within their respective jurisdictions.
Metro Manila Council (MMC) president and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora made the statement following the government’s directive asking LGUs to reduce water usage to help avert a looming water crisis.
Zamora said that the LGUs can implement their own regulations, because not all cities in the region have establishments that consume huge volumes of water, such as golf courses and hotels that have swimming pools or water parks.
The government earlier advised village leaders and residents of Metro Manila to reduce activities such as watering lawns and washing cars to avert massive water interruptions in the coming months.
