The Department of Justice on Tuesday said a suspected gunman in the March 31 killing of radio broadcaster Cresenciano “Cris” Bunduquin in Oriental Mindoro has been apprehended by the National Bureau of Investigation.
DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV identified the arrested suspect as Isabelo L. Bautista Jr.
Clavano said Bautista was arrested by agents of the NBI National Capital Region (NCR) after securing arrest warrants last July 7 from Judge Josephine Carranzo of Calapan City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 39.
The NBI agents “immediately enforced the two warrants of arrest against our gunman, Isabelo Bautista Jr., after apprising him of his constitutional rights and was officially turned over to the NBI detention facility on the same evening,” he added.
“The appropriate Return of the Warrant of Arrest is already prepared and will be transmitted to the court in the soonest possible time,” he stressed.
Bautista has been charged before the Calapan City RTC with murder and attempted murder for the killing of Bunduquin and the attempted killing of the broadcaster’s son.
Prior to the arrest, Clavano said the NBI-NCR was directed to conduct a parallel investigation on the case.
According to him, Bautista presented himself to the NBI-NCR last June 27 to deny his involvement in the crime.
