The Anti-Red Tape Authority, together with PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications Inc., organized a workshop to identify and resolve bottlenecks involved in the issuance of permits, licenses and authorizations in powering telecommunication towers.

“This whole-of-nation approach that we have embraced is a testament to the power of collaboration, and through this power we can transform remote areas into hubs of connectivity, empowering communities and unlocking new opportunities. Through our unwavering commitment, I am confident that we will achieve our goal of connecting every Filipino; towards a more progressive and inclusive nation,” said ARTA secretary Ernesto Perez.

ARTA noted significant improvements in the competitiveness of the telecom industry made possible by the ARTA-led joint memorandum circulars.

The May 2023 data from Ookla showed the Philippines is now ranked 83rd out of 142 countries for mobile internet speed and 45th in terms of fixed broadband media.

PLDT and Smart president and chief executive Alfredo Panlilio reiterated the companies’ support for government initiatives to ensure fast and efficient rollout of telco infrastructure across the country.

“ARTA and the rest of our partners in the public sector have been consistently helpful in realizing PLDT Group’s goals, particularly in facilitating the fast rollout of our fixed and wireless networks. Through collaborations such as this workshop, we hope to address the urgent need to operationalize policies to ultimately ensure the highest possible quality of service for all Filipinos, and consequently support the government’s digitalization efforts,” he said.
