DOT cancels DDB contract over video fiasco

The Department of Tourism said Monday it is terminating its contract with advertising agency DDB Philippines, following the fiasco involving the video presentation released by the department showing sites in other countries.

The DOT decided to cancel the contract as the fiasco presented the department in a bad light and compromised the sincerity of the campaign.

“The DOT is in solidarity with our fellow Filipinos in expressing our outrage and extreme disappointment at the use of non-original/stock footage purporting to be scenes from the Philippines in the audio visual presentation prepared, produced, and published by DDB Philippines as a component of the launch of the enhanced tourism branding campaign for the country,” the DOT said in a statement.

It said that under the terms governing the tourism branding campaign contract with DDB Philippines, “material/s produced by the winning bidder should be original and aligned with the DOT’s advocacies”.

“The DOT reserves the right to change, suspend or discontinue temporarily or permanently the contract at any time should the DOT deem the agency incapable of the project,” the contract read.
